A boatie has handled a serious shark attack in probably the most Aussie way possible.

The 55-year-old was fishing off Yepoon on Monday afternoon when he caught a reef shark but as he went to pull it into the boat, it took a massive bite out of his shoulder. Despite suffering a very serious wound the boatie stayed on his boat overnight and treated himself, only asking paramedics to meet him on shore early on Tuesday morning.

“Despite a large wound to his upper arm, he’s in a remarkable condition, very joyful,” said QAS Mackay’s Brad Myers.

He’s been transported to Rockhampton Hospital for treatment.
