Emergency services are on high alert ahead of heat-wave conditions, which are expected to run across the entire week.

Most of the country will be copping it, with the mercury set to soar to tops of 40 degrees in parts of Sydney's west.

Inspector Ben Shepherd from the NSW Rural Fire Service told the Hit Newsroom authorities are standing by to keep us safe.

“We’ll be ready to respond, but it’s important the public play their part as well,” he said.

“If you do see an unattended fire, please call it in to Triple 000, don’t assume someone else has already done it, especially if you’re travelling.

“Importantly as well, if we do put total fire bans in place, you must adhere to those rules.

“Under these kinds of conditions, fires can start easily and spread rapidly.”
