Austin Butler Has Been Cast As Elvis In New Baz Luhrmann Flick!

Actor Austin Butler has beat the likes of Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort and Miles Tellar for the role of a lifetime, playing the one and only Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film biopic.

The movie will tell the rags-to-riches story of The King, focusing on his “complex relationship” with his manager Colonel Tom Parker, played by the legendary Tom Hanks, over two decades.

"You have made my life complete, and I love you so," the actor wrote on Instagram.

Austin received rave reviews last years during his Broadway debut opposite Denzel Washington in The Iceman Cometh, and will soon be seen by all in Quentin Tarantino’s new film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The actor became certified ‘swoon-worthy’ when he played heartthrob Sebastian Kydd in The Carrie Diaries, and is also one half of an extremely attractive celebrity couple, having dated Vanessa Hudgens since 2011.

“I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right, and we searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist,” Luhrmann told Deadline.

“Throughout the casting process, it was an honour for me to encounter such a vast array of talent. I had heard about Austin Butler from his stand-out role opposite Denzel Washington in The Iceman Cometh on Broadway, and through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”
