Police have laid charges over a suspicious house fire in Ashmore earlier this year.

A home on Belah Street caught alight around 8am on January 14, while the male resident wasn't home.

It will be alleged that a person broke into the man’s ute, positioned it against the side of the building and set it on fire, with the flames quickly spreading to the nearby residence.

The blaze caused significant damage to the interior of the home, as well as completely destroying the vehicle.

A tinnie on a boat trailer was also allegedly stolen from out the front of the home.

The vessel was found on fire on Henri Robert Drive in Clagiraba around 7pm that night.

Following investigations, officers raided a Hope Island address on Saturday, where they arrested a 27-year-old man.

He was due in court on Monday, charged with four counts of arson and one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing a vessel and stealing a vehicle.
