As the flood recovery continues, sad news has broken from the Townsville Public Health Unit.

It has been confirmed that three additional cases have sparked over the weekend across North Queensland.

Two of those patients are in Townsville, and the third case is in Mount Isa.

This news bring the total number of cases to 13.

Dr Julie Mudd said people at increased risk of contracting melioidosis were the already unwell, elderly or people with existing chronic conditions.

The two patients in Townsville Hospital are in a stable condition, while the patient at Mount Isa Hospital is in a serious condition.

It follows confirmation that last week a woman in Townsville died from the soil born bacteria.

If you're near flood waters, or mud you must have cuts covered and be wearing boots and gloves.
