It’s a good thing the weather today in Melbourne is cold, because all 36 of Melbourne’s beaches have been declared a no-swim zone.

Last night’s storms have resulted in faecal matter washing into Port Phillip Bay, bringing with it a serious gastro risk.

The Environment Protection Authority has rated the water quality at all 36 beaches as “poor”, and advised beachgoers to avoid swimming.

Inland swimming spots along the Yarra including Warrandyte and Healesville should also be avoided.

The weather is expected to heat up during the week, with a top of 34 degrees predicted on Wednesday.

Victorians should keep an eye on the EPA’s Yarra and Bay website for the latest water quality warnings.
