Albany will come alive on August 26 when the Cabernet Savages from Margaret River roll into town to play Albany’s Great Southern Breakers. The last two games hosted in Albany saw 500 eager punters pack into Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre. The game is set to impress again with both teams keen for a win leading into the State tournament next month.

Roller Derby is a fast and full contact sport on roller skates, where players utilise strategy, speed ad strength to score points by passing opposing players.  The rules are simple, watch the Jammer, who has a star cover on their helmet, pass the opposition and they score a point for each person. The other players on the track are called Blockers and their goal is to stop any points being scored by the opposition jammer.  This is where the hits and stops come into action.  Players can use most of their body to stop the opposition. Keeping players in order are Referees on skates who officiate the game play and Non Skating Officials off skates who track time, penalties and scores.

Hazel Hellraiser will be captaining her first game and said ‘The atmosphere is amazing, so many people cheering and it really makes the whole team very proud to represent Albany.  When you look up and see so many faces you cant help but feel amazing’

Albany coach, Stax said ‘The team has been training extra hours on top of the usual 6 hours a week, many filling their time with off skates fitness and training programs.  The team has been training in Denmark on weekends leading up to this game.  They are an amazing group of sportspeople who are going to give it 100% on Saturday night’

Tickets online for $15 and kids under 10 are free.  This game will also have VIP tickets for sale for $30 ensures no wait in the queue and front row seating.  League sponsor Stirling Print will also be selling tickets from their store on Sanford Rd.  Door tickets are available for $17 if not sold out prior to the night.
