Theme Park Protests: Activists Shut Down Dolphin Show At Sea World

Sea World bosses have defended the Gold Coast theme park's animal practices and talked-up its marine-life rescue efforts, in response to protests over the weekend.

A number of animal rights activists waded into the water during a dolphin show on Saturday, unfurling a banner urging the crowd to google killer whale documentary Blackfish.

They also staged rallies at Dreamworld and Outback Spectacular on Sunday.

Five people were fined for public nuisance after the incidents.

Ruth Paramore from Justice for Captives told Nine News they were just trying to be heard.

"Sometimes it's the only way; if you don't cause a disturbance then people don't listen, they don't hear," she said.

In a statement, Sea World said it was proud of its passionate team, world-class facilities and conservation and education efforts, including not-for-profit Research & Rescue Foundation, which rescued, rehabilitated and released marine animals, as well as funding hundreds of marine research projects.

It said it welcomed constructive and professional dialogue with activist groups, but that "the tactics of this group [were] unprofessional and dangerous, not only to themselves but to the animals and guests".
