The Cairns and Far North Environment Centre is inviting us along to a vigil tonight to stand together in peaceful assembly to show our solidarity for the great loss of Spectacled Flying Foxes that died during the November heatwave, and for the few that remain who continue to struggle in their survival.
More than a third of the population was killed thanks to heat related stress and injuries because of our sky rocketing temperatures last year.
The community is being asked to hold white popsicle stick crosses during the vigil. The centre also say they want to show Cairns Regional Council they don't agree with plans to move flying foxes to other parts of FNQ.
It's set to be held at the Cairns Library lawn (corner of Aplin and Lake Street) from 6 to 7pm Friday the 26th April.
