Two men have been arrested over the large scale theft of copper wire from Hunter Water Corporation land at Tomago.
It's claimed the pair removed 940kg of wiring from the ground over the past two weeks.
Police carried out a sting early yesterday morning, catching one of the men red handed.
The 47 year old was charged with multiple counts of larceny and trespass.
While a 38 year old man was later arrested at his Anna Bay home.
They've both been granted conditional bail to face Raymond Terrace Local Court on December 17.
Tomago has been a popular spot for copper wire thieves this year, forcing Ausgrid to issue a number of warnings.
