The plastic bag ban has been in effect for a while now and whilst some Australians think that the ban is a great idea, others aren't so sure.

For example, earlier this morning, Hit 105's Stav, Abby and Matt were discussing the plastic bag ban with sustainable living expert Anita Van Dyke, who has just written her first book called A Zero Waste Life!

Matt said that although he thinks the plastic bag ban is great, he does know a lot of people who are willing to pay an extra 15 cents to purchase an even thicker plastic bag every time they go to the supermarket, defeating the purpose of the plastic bag ban in the first place!

"Now supermarkets are selling thicker plastic bags than the other ones that they were giving away, I believe it should have just been no bags full stop, because I know people who have enough money to just spend 15 cents every time they go [to the shop] and they never re-use those bags.

"And now supermarkets are actually making profit, when they were meant to be removing plastic."

Anita agreed with Matt's statement and actually posed an alternative to the plastic bag ban, that would make shopping easier for customers and is better for the environment:
