Dating in 2018 is a lot more difficult than dating in any other era, mainly because dating apps like Tinder exist and other social media websites where we can spend hours stalking a complete stranger online and know everything about them before we even meet them.

Trying to figure out how to approach dating in 2018 is a tiring process that not many people actually have time for and love expert Matthew Hussey, who is about to appear in Channel Seven's new series Single Wives, knows this all too well.

He's spent his life helping regular people go out in the world and meet new people who could potentially become life-long partners!

This morning, Matthew stopped in to chat to Hit105's Stav, Abby and Matt about how people, especially women, can make the first move in public without coming across as too forward by using the "hanker-chief" manoeuvre.

"Culturally, a lot of women have been conditioned to believe [that] it's not their job to make the first move. Whenever a woman says to me, 'I'm old-fashioned, I don't make the first move', I'll always say to them 'you don't know what old-fashioned is!' Because old-fashioned was a woman one hundred years ago walking past a guy, seeing that she was attracted to him, and then subtly dropping her hanker-chief, then she kept walking.

"The guy would see it and think 'here's an extraordinary opportunity to be a man' and he'd pick it up, walk over and say 'madam, you dropped this' and she'd say, 'did I?' and they'd now have a conversation!"

He also explained what you should avoid talking about on a date during the interview, which you can listen to in full below:
