The first half of 2017 saw a 37% jump in mobile phone fines from the previous year and that number seems to keep on growing.
At the moment, perpetrators face a $400 fine and the loss of three demerit points.
Now there a calls to classify the act as ‘dangerous driving’ which would see offenders copped with a $3000 fine and six demerit points deducted, whilst second offenders could face possible jail time, gain a 12 month license ban and a $6000 fine.
But is money really the best way to stave people away from reoffending?
