With the food contamination crisis now reaching over 100 cases, the Prime Minister has announced a million dollar assistance package to help farmers out. But is it enough?

Ash Pollard's cousin Sophie who owns Littlewood Farms in Tasmania joined Gawndy & Ash this morning to share her take as a strawberry farmer.

"It's such a hard situation. The agricultural industry is so fickle as it is with drought, flood, fire, you name it... it's a real shame that it's taken something that's hit media so hard to damage an industry in what, three days."

The hardest question is what the public can do to help. But Sophie has a simple idea.

"Just don't stop buying strawberries. We also need the supermarkets to stay on board and continue to sell them. Some of the Queensland farmers have opened their doors to the general public and people are lining up for two hours to help support the industry, walking out with crates and crates of strawberries to make sure the fruit goes to mouths and not to the dumps."
