Stats have revealed that 20 Townsville drivers each day are fined for exceeding the speed limit.

Do the Maths and it adds up to around $2.5million leaving Townsville wallets each year.

Police have dropped the bomb shell that explosive diarrhoea is the most common excuse from drivers breaking the speed limit.

Sticking with the theme, the second most used excuse is that the driver is running late for a doctor appointment.

Across the state last year Police had to issue 917 905 speeding tickets to Queenslanders going over the speed guidelines.

The majority of speedsters have been clocked travelling somewhere between 13km/h-20km/h by Police.

Despite these stats, it's good to know that in fact more and more of us are doing the right thing on the roads and following the speed limit.

Let's take a quick look at speeding ticket stats over the years...
2014- 12 094
