It was the image that touched hearts across the globe.

Depicted in the shot, Queensland Ambulance Officer Graeme Cooper gazing over the ocean at Hervey Bay, with palliative patient Joyce. The photo was taken by Graeme's coworker, Danielle Kellam in November 2017.

"After all their travels they ended up deciding that Hervey Bay was the place where they would finally reside and retire."

- Graeme Cooper

But this trio had already struck up a close bond, with a previous visit to the bay just one week earlier.

"I said to her, "What are you thinking?" and she said, "Everything's right." And it wasn't long after that that she said she was ready to go."

- Danielle Kellam

Joyce passed away two days later.

Fast forward one year and Graeme and Danielle were delighted to learn they had formally been invited to a luncheon with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their Australian visit.

The humble pair brushed off any hero status, saying their focus was simply on doing something of great significance for a special person in her last days.
