What’s The Correct Way To Address Someone Who Identifies As Transgender?

Vonni, who is transgender, answered all your unfiltered questions in our second series of Do You Mind If I Ask?

Vonni was incredibly open and answered every question Amos, Cat & Angus and our listeners had.

Jo called in and asked what the correct terminology is to address someone who identifies as transgender, a question that many people are likely to have.

"Definitely not transvestite, because transvestite is a completely different thing," Vonni said. "I am not offended by tranny, but some of my friends really are."

Vonni then clarified the difference between transvestite and transgender for anyone who might be confused.

"Transvestite is normally sort of a straight guy who just gets off on wearing women's clothes," Vonni explained. "A transgender person would feel that they are trapped in the wrong body."
