New Laws to help New South Wales Cyclists

And they come with hefty fines!

NSW drivers will now be required to leave minimum gaps while passing cyclists or face loss of demerit points and hefty fines.

It comes after a successful two-year trial of the rules which resulted in a 15 per cent reduction in bicycle and vehicle crashes.

Drivers must now provide a distance of one metre when the speed limit is 60km/hr or less.

Once you are over 60km/hr the distance bumps up to 1.5m.

Drivers found in breach of these rules will face a penalty of $330 and two demerit points.
