When we found out that Downton Abbey would FINALLY be getting the movie it deserves, we rejoiced! As did the rest of the world...
The announcement was made on Twitter over the weekend and of course, its OG cast will be returning for the film because if they didn't, it wouldn't really be Downton Abbey, now would it?!
Unfortunately, not every character will be returning for the movie... sorry.
Lily James, who played Rose in the series, has now confirmed that she won't be returning to Downton Abbey because she believes it just wouldn't make sense.
For those wondering why she is thinking this way, in the series, Rose married Atticus Aldridge and moved to New York City, having only returned in a Christmas Special episode.
She told People Magazine that although she'd love to reunite with the cast, she just doesn't think it's very likely:
"I would have loved to have come back for a scene, but for a movie it can’t be like a Christmas special and it needs to be a focused storyline."
At least we still have Dame Maggie Smith...
