Neighbours Set To Make History With First Same-Sex Proposal

It's happening this week!

Neighbours Set To Make History With First Same-Sex Proposal Network Ten

Neighbours, one of the two most iconic Aussie soap opera TV shows, is about to make history by televising their first same-sex marriage proposal!

In an episode that will air on Friday, Aaron Brennan and David Tanaka, the show's first same-sex couple, are set to take their relationship to the next level.

The pair were supposed to take the step last year, but some typical Neighbours plot twists took place and the proposal (which was going to involve one of them dressed up as Cupid!) never happened.

This time around, more shenanigans occur, but luckily, it doesn't stop the proposal from happening.

Matt Wilson and Takaya Honda, the actors who play Aaron and David, chatted to Ten Daily about their character's relationship and said that they were determined to do the whole thing correctly.

"We wanted to work on making the relationship truthful and as real as possible so people would be barracking for us.

"With any couple on a soap, they're drawn out. There are speed bumps, affairs, so many things.

"Being of Asian descent I know what it feels like, to not be represented or not even realise you're not represented. Feeling like an outsider because you don't see yourself.

"To be part of the community and to feel represented, it's awesome. I hope it continues. I hope the storylines continue and give people hope and inspire them and make them feel a part of a larger whole ... no longer the outsider."

The proposal double episode will air this Friday.
