Gone too far?

Julia Morris Receives Backlash After Eating Disorder ‘Joke’ On 'I'm A Celeb' Channel 10

Last night, Julia Morris made a crass joke towards model Simone Holtznagel after another contestant proceeded to vomit on ‘I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here’.

Last night's episode of I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here had participants Danny Green and Anthony Mundine competing in a “heavyweight” eating challenge.

They had consumed nasty foods such as raw sausages and jelly with fish eyes, so… OF COURSE Green vomited as a result, who wouldn’t?

Co-host Julia Morris took the opportunity to make an insensitive joke towards the model contestant, who was standing on the sidelines.

“Oh my god Simone, does this remind you of Australia’s Next Top Model?”

Viewers have responded to Julia’s “joke” with horror over the callous association between models and eating disorders.

Speaking with News.com.au, The Butterfly Foundation, which represents all people affected by mental health issues, specifically eating disorders and body image, responded on the danger of jokes ‘going too far’.

“For those experiencing an eating disorder, it can lead to feelings of shame, embarrassment or feeling misunderstood. As a result, they could be less likely to open up to support networks as they are afraid of not being taken seriously. So this is a big concern.

"It also impacts on the general public’s understanding of eating disorders as a serious mental illness.”
