Last week, late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel became quite emotional after he revealed that his newborn son, William 'Billy' Kimmel, was born with a heart condition.

Only hours after Billy was brought into the world, a nurse noticed that he wasn't breathing properly and the comedian explained in his opening monologue, that his son ended up having emergency heart surgery.

The surgery was a success, however, Jimmy ended up taking paternity leave from his talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, to help take care his his son.

During the week, a series of guest hosts filled in for him including Kristen Bell and David Spade but now, Jimmy has returned to TV and given his audience an update on his son's condition.

"One week ago tonight I made an emotional speech that was seen by millions.

"First I want to tell [you] because so many people have asked, Billy is doing very well.

"He's getting bigger, he's sleeping well..."

Jimmy thanked his fans for their support and the kind words they sent him while he was away.

"My wife and I are very grateful."

He shared a video that his wife had recorded of Billy earlier that day and the little guy was smiling from ear to ear.
