A ‘Roseanne’ Spinoff Is Happening Without Roseanne Barr

A spinoff series starring everyone from Roseanne except Roseanne Barr has just been ordered by US TV channel ABC.

The recent reboot of Roseanne was cancelled after Roseanne Barr got in hot water over some controversial tweets.

But now a new series called The Conners will follow the adventures of the rest of the family. John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky) and Michael Fishman (D.J.) will all return for the new show.

“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne,” Roseanne said in a statement. “I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”

At this point we don’t know how they will explain Roseanne’s absence, but the show will focus on similar themes to the original series.

In a joint statement, the cast of The Conners said, “We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

The network and executive producer Tom Werner reached an agreement with Roseanne that means she will have no creative or financial involvement in the new series.
