There was quite a lot of controversy surrounding Meghan Markle’s family when it came time for her to wed Prince Harry.
Her father, Thomas Markle, remained tight lipped around the time of the ceremony, but now he has opened up about the couple’s marriage and has openly apologised to them both.
In an interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain, he opened up about Prince Harry asking permission to marry his daughter, officially apologised for staging paparazzi photos and also how he felt when he saw Prince Charles walk Meghan down the aisle.
He explained how the couple reacted when he told them he wouldn’t be able to walk Meghan down the aisle, saying, "They were disappointed. Meghan cried, I'm sure, and they both said 'Take care of yourself, we are really worried about you’."
While disappointed he couldn’t do it himself, as he had so wanted to, he revealed he was “honoured” that Prince Charles did.
"I can't think of a better replacement than someone like Prince Charles."
He gushed about Prince Harry, calling him a “great” and “interesting guy,” and that when he had called to ask permission to marry Meghan, "I said you're a gentleman, promise me you'll never raise a hand against my daughter and of course I give you my permission.”
Thomas also touched on the staged paparazzi pics, explaining how he thought he could use it to show a more positive side of himself to the public.
"Obviously that all went to hell. I feel bad about it, I apologise for it and that's all I can do. That was a mistake."
Lastly, when he reflected on Meghan’s new title, he sweetly gushed, "My daughter has been a princess since the day she was born.
“[Prince Harry] made a good pick, didn't he?”
We’re glad to see everything is on the up and up for Meghan and her father!
