For the first time ever in Australia’s four-year history of performing in the Eurovision Song Content, we the public will be deciding who we send as our entrant for 2019 and the song they will sing!
THIS IS SO EXCITING!
SBS announced the big news last night, revealing they will be hosting a “live contest open to aspiring songwriters where a jury and the general public will vote for their favourite performer.”
The contest will be held on February 8-9th and broadcast live on SBS at 7.30pm on February 9 - So there is plenty of time to prepare!
“As our country’s passion for Eurovision continues to grow, we are inundated by fans wanting to have their say in choosing who represents Australia on the world’s biggest stage,” SBS Acting Managing Director James Taylor explained.
The contest will be hosted by our current Eurovision hosts, Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst.
“I can’t wait to be part of the first ever Eurovision selection show in the Southern Hemisphere and find the next Aussie classic, up there with the likes of Farnsy’s You’re the Voice, Braithwaite’s The Horses or my personal favourite, the seminal debut single from Bardot, Poison," said Creasey.
There are so many possibilities here!
Will we discover a completely new talent, or will we watch Client Liaison, Empire of The Sun and The Veronicas finally battle it out?
As Eurovision is first and foremost a song competition, SBS is calling on songwriters across the country to “submit an original composition for consideration” before November 4th.
