Every damn movie is getting either a sequel, a prequel or a reboot these days and honestly, we're ready to have almost every classic film rereleased at this point because that's where Hollywood is headed, people!
Now, as annoying as this is, some films DO leave room for an original sequel and Sweet Home Alabama is one of them.
The original film followed Melanie Smooter, played by Reese Witherspoon, as she returns home to Alabama to finalise her divorce from her childhood sweetheart Jake Perry, played by Josh Lucas, so she can marry her trendy New York man.
It's a great movie and very wholesome, but it also leaves a lot of room to see how the couple, who have known each other since childhood, dealt with their possible divorce and you know, life in general.
This is exactly what what Josh told the women of The Talk, earlier this week, saying that he'd love to explore the possibilities:
"I think it would be so fascinating and obviously I don’t know where it would go, but I think it would be so fascinating to see where these two characters and the children and where everyone ended up.
"Are they still together? Are they divorced? Do they want to be back together? I mean, there’s so many different ideas that I think, you know, we all know life is long and complex and they had an interesting relationship to begin with, the two characters.
"I mean, the fact that they were together from when they were children, I would love to see what’s going on 20 years later."
Reese Witherspoon expressed interest in a sequel during a live Facebook Q&A session, saying that if Disney wants it to happen, all they need to do is let her know:
"We are not making a sequel that I know of, but if Disney wants to make a sequel they can just call me,” she said. “I would happily make Sweet Home Alabama 2."
So, um, Disney... can you make that call now please?
