Over the years, rom-coms have kinda spiralled into something that isn’t always great.
They lack the powerful and heartwarming punch of the old rom-coms and instead opt for cliches or try way too hard to get a laugh out of us.
But that is all about to change, because this new Netflix rom-com is bringing back the magic of the old, iconic rom-coms and everyone is obsessed with it!
The film, Set It Up, stars the absolute genius that is Zoey Deutch (Vampire Academy, Why Him?, Before I Fall) - trust me, she’s one of those actors that can make you cry, laugh or believe that there’s hope no matter how hard times are.
Glenn Powell stars opposite this beauty and the film also features Lucy Liu!
Here’s the low down on the storyline:
Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glenn Powell) are personal assistants in New York to two of the most successful, career-driven bosses, Kristen (Lucy Liu) and Rick (Taye Diggs).
They’re tired, over-worked, and are the last ones to leave the office every night. Not only that, but they both see that their bosses are in need of some loving and decide they’re going to set them up - hence the whole ‘set it up’ title.
Working together, they successfully turn their cranky bosses into love birds, but also find they’re falling for each other in the most awkward, humorous and authentic ways possible.
If you think this is the run-of-the-mill cliche ending - stop right there!
Because the film doesn’t end in the way you expect it too and instead preserves all the things we love about the rom-coms of old.
This film isn’t cliche. It’s not mush.
It’s a blend of all the best bits of a rom-com, bound together with the genuine, quirky performance of Zoey, who is one of the most promising actors of our generation!

We’ll finish it all off with the wise words of Charlie.
"I think I’ve seen the Lindsey Lohan classic enough times to know that we’re full-on Parent-trapping hard."
Don’t be a fool - watch this on Netflix ASAP!
