Okay, so we already know that Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, has been cast as Disney's Mulan reboot’s main character.
Now, we finally know who will be playing her love interest!
New Zealand actor Yoson An, who is of Chinese descent, will be starring opposite Crystal to play Chen Honghui.
There’s no Li Shang in this remake as Disney made some changes, so the character of Chen will be the new love interest.
He’s described as a “confident and ambitious recruit” who joins Commander Tung’s unit.
Yoson was born in China and immigrated to New Zealand as a young boy.
He kicked off his acting career in 2012 and has since starred in roles in Grace, Ghost Bride, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, and the much-anticipated new film Mortal Engines.
Disney had originally wanted to replace Li Shang with a while male lead, but this caused much controversy.
Also among the cast is the legendary Jet Li as The Emperor, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Utkarsh Ambudkar as Skath, Xana Tang as Mulan’s sister, Ron Yuan as Sergeant Qiang, Chum Ehelepola as Ramtish, and Li Gong as a yet unnamed character.
The Mulan live-action remake is believed to be hitting cinemas in 2020.
