Disney has released some new insight into the next Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IX.
Daisy Ridley and Adam Drive are set to return to the franchise, with other surprise additions being that both Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are set to appear in the film.
While Carrie did pass away in 2016, after she filmed her part in The Last Jedi, she will appear in the next film thanks to unseen footage from The Force Awakens.
Director J.J. Abrams was given her daughter Billie Lourd’s blessing to use the footage to make it possible for her to be in the film.
In a statement, he explained, “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us.
"We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honour Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
We can’t wait to see the next film and how Carrie’s memory will be honoured.
