Australians have been voting in The Guardian/BirdLife Australia’s poll for Bird of the Year and the results are in.
Last week, you may remember that the Ibis bird was leading in votes which had the nation divided, some celebrating the bin chicken’s accomplishments whilst others were cringing.
Well, now it turns out the Ibis was the least of our problems because it was overtaken at the last minute.
Oh ‘which bird would swoop in like that’ you ask?
Why the swooping-est bird there is… THE MAGPIE.
The bird who brings fear to all who ride bikes and walk through parks has just been given a medal.
I am shocked.
Not the Laughing Kookaburra, or Orange-bellied Parrot… the Magpie.
The Magpie secured 19,926 votes of the total 149,848, beating the White Ibis by 843 votes.
