Most of us can relate to the struggle of getting out of bed in the morning, when all we really want to be doing is sleeping all day, not doing this thing called ‘work’.

Well, it turns out that the whole ‘struggling to get out of bed’ thing is actually a condition.

Before you go telling your boss you can’t come in until 11am each day, just because you’re lazy af when it comes to getting up in the morning doesn’t mean you have this.

The condition is called dysania, a.k.a. clinomania, and it’s a psychological condition describing a chronic inability to get up out of bed in the morning, leaving the person craving to want to get back in bed.

Psych2Go has explained that the condition can relate to issues with your mental health and many with it also have depression and anxiety of some kind. It has also been linked to chronic fatigue syndrome.

Another red light for you to not tell your boss just yet, it’s not an officially, universally recognised condition just yet, but it IS a very real thing for those who suffer from it, affecting their every day life.

For sufferers, no matter what’s planned for the day or what responsibilities they have, their need for being in bed is overwhelming and sometimes means they’ll stay in bed for days at a time.

So, how can you tell if you have the condition or just are the worst morning person in existence?

Rise and Shine explained that, when getting up in the morning, if words like ‘tiresome’ or ‘frustrating’ come to mind, then you probably do not have it.

You’re just a little more on the lazy side.

But if words lie ‘stress’, ‘overwhelming’ and ‘anxiety’ pop up, you should head to your GP to look into this further.

If you’re genuinely feeling these symptoms and are concerned for your health and wellbeing, please visit your local GP to discuss your worries.
