We all long for the weekend, so we can escape the monotony of work life and kick up our feet to do whatever our souls please - which includes sleeping in.
While some of us may believe it’s bad to break our sleeping habits and get more zzzz’s on the weekend, it turns out that a study has confirmed that weekend sleep ins ARE good for you!
Research from Stockholm University in Sweden analysed 43,000 participants to see how they were affected by amounts of sleep.
The found that you’re able to boost your life expectancy by increasing your average sleep time - by catching up on those extra hours on the weekend!
The study’s lead researcher, Torbjörn Åkerstedt, spoke to Business Insider, revealing, "It seems like you actually can compensate by catching up on sleep during weekends. This is in effect an argument for lazing around all weekend… it's anyway better to increase [sleep hours] on the weekend rather than not doing it at all.”
It’s also important to get the right amount of sleep per night, which helps boost your mental and physical wellbeing.
