Having A Sister Makes You A HAPPIER Person

If you’ve got a sister, it’s time to go give her one huge hug, because it turns out that she’s doing a lot of good for you.

A new study from researchers at De Montfort University in Leicester quizzed 571 people between 17 and 25 and found that those who had sisters were more likely to have more balanced lives.

Prof Tony Cassidy, who was involved with the study, revealed, "Sisters appear to encourage more open communication and cohesion in families. However, brothers seem to have the alternative effect.

"Emotional expression is fundamental to good psychological health and having sisters promotes this in families."

It was shown that daughters in families encouraged others to communicate their emotions better.

Those who ranked highest in the study when it came to independence achievements were girls who had other sisters, whereas boys who only had brothers ranked the lowest.

"It could be that boys have a natural tendency not to talk about things. With boys together it is about a conspiracy of silence not to talk. Girls tend to break that down," Tony continued.
