Thirty-seven year old Luke Joseph Caffery was convicted of common assault following an incident at the Pier Hotel on July 25 this year.

Two justices of the peace accepted his endorsed plea of guilty at Esperance Courthouse on September 26 after endorsed plea was entered on September 25.

Esperance police said Joseph Caffery was drinking at the Pier when staff asked him to leave and that is when things escalated. A security guard and a staff member escorted Caffery out of the Pier Hotel when he struck the staff member in the face with his fist and was abusive to both staff members. Caffery continued to be aggressive and argumentative, even going as far as asking the police to fight him.

Caffery is due for sentencing in Esperance Magistrate Court on Tuesday, October 16.
