Residents and visitors to Kalgoorlie-Boulder will be able to spot NASA’s International Space Station in the sky this week as it zooms across the horizon.

The Space Station circles the Earth every 90 minutes, travelling at about 28,000km/h, which gives the crew 16 sunrises and sunsets every day. It is only visible from Earth during the dark and when it is 40 degrees or more above the horizon.

According to the free, NASA-run website Spot the Station, the station will be visible tonight at 5.34pm for four minutes, Thursday at 6.19pm for two minutes and Friday at 5.26pm for four minutes.

The website states the Space Station can be seen with the naked eye and no extra equipment is required.

Users can register to the website to receive updates for when the Space Station is due to pass their area.
