Menzies is gearing up for this weekend's inaugural Menzies Rodeo and Ute Muster which will feature a $23,700 prize pool.

The event includes bull riding, bareback bronc riding, barrel racing and steer wrestling and is attracting some big names.

From Gingin, Wade McCarthy is the highest-ranked WA cowboy and currently sits third in the national all-round cowboy standings on the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association’s circuit. He will come to Menzies this weekend with three horses and hopes to gain some valuable points as he aims for the finals.

Wendy Harris is from Moora and she currently sits fifth in the national all-round cowgirl standings and will also be looking to lock down some valuable points when she competes in barrel racing and steer undercoating.

The rodeo starts at midday on Saturday, October 21st with shuttle buses from Kalgoorlie running and free overnight camping available plus a community breakfast on Sunday.

There's no better way to experience the outback Goldfields!
