A 34 year-old Esperance woman has been remanded in custody for sentencing after being convicted of stealing and trespassing at Woolworths in Esperance.

Maria Narelle Feeney pleaded guilty to stealing and without lawful excuse trespassing before a Magistrate in Esperance Courthouse on Tuesday, October 16.

The court heard on June 26, 2018, Feeney entered the Woolworths in Esperance although she was banned from the store for stealing.

She took a trolley full of items to the value of $1597.05, bypassed staff and left without attempting to pay for the items.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage and was witnessed by staff.

Feeney was arrested shortly after leaving the Woolworths but no longer had the stolen items, telling police she had swapped the goods for money.

The magistrate deemed there were no bail conditions which would ensure Feeney would not commit a similar offence again.

Feeney is set to be sentenced on January 8, 2019
