Albany MP Wants Answers

Following the firestorm that ripped through Albany last Thursday, local MP Peter Watson says he will push a full inquiry into prescribed burns.

Over the weekend, Premier Mark McGowan announced that there would be an inquiry into two Department of Biodiversity, Conversation and Attractions prescribed burns in the Stirling Range National Park, and Torndirrup National Park, which escaped containment lines last Thursday 24th May.

The Stirling blaze resulted in damage to 17,000 hectares of property, kilometres of fencing, and early estimates of more than 1,000 head of livestock. Most of the nearly 50 fires reported in Albany and Denmark on Thursday night had escaped from private burns.
