Townsville, we love our sport and we love a work out. We have The Hill, The Cowboys, and there are gyms and boot camps on every corner.
Well now there’s a brand new physical challenge for the super fit to get around as Townsville welcomes its very first Spartan Race.
The event is going down this Saturday at Oak Valley and there are 3 major races.
There’s a “Sprint”, that pushes you over 20 obstacles over 7 k’s.
The “Beast”, a 20 K gruel with 30 – 25 obstacles with a record completion time of 3 hours.
Then lastly there’s the “Ultra Beast”, just in case the regular Beast sounded too easy, you can essentially do it twice. The Ultra is a full 42 K, yep, the length of a legit marathon, but with an added 50 obstacles and ridiculous terrain.
Plus there’s also a Kids Race for the junior Spartan Warriors, with heats broken down into age catagories ranging from 3 to 14 years old.
Spartan Australia CEO Max Delacy says numbers are strong so far, with over 3000 Townsvillians getting ready to get muddy.
If climbing over obstacles and dragging yourself through mud doesn’t sound like a fun Saturday for you, you can still check out the action, but make sure you register as a spectator to get easy access to the event.
