After more than 100 games with the Cowboys, Ray Thompson has announced he will hang his boots up at the end of the 2017 NRL season.
The news broke from the Cowboys camp today, with fans responding in praise.
Ray says ongoing knee injury issues are what drove the decision.
“I’ve battled through some injuries throughout my career, so now was the right time to call curtains, but rest assured I’ll be giving it my all for the rest of the season," says the 27-year-old.
Ray made his NRL debut in 2009 during Round 26 against the Roosters.
The 90's baby has also represented Papua New Guinea (2011, 2013, 2015) and played for the Indigenous All Stars (2015).
Ray will join Matthew Bowen in delivering the Cowboys' important community programs after his on-field duties end this season.
His variety of hair styles and playing ability will be missed!
