A petition is doing the rounds online at the moment to show support to the Townsville RSPCA shelter.
This week the news broke that the RSPCA are breaking their rocky relationship with Townsville City Council.
Despite elections, amalgamations, constantly changing bureaucracy and shifting of the deck chairs, the Council has refused to pay the RSPCA over the past 17 years what it costs to run the decaying facility.
RSPCA QLD believe the council pens are well below acceptable standards and in their present state it is all but impossible to ensure they remain disease free.
“We’re not blaming individual elected councilors but rather the all powerful bureaucracy that runs the council,” said RSPCA Qld CEO Mark Townend.
“In fact at one meeting the council’s legal representative even suggested that the best way to save money was kill more animals.”
