It seems Townsville shoppers are rejoicing, with the State Government introducing longer trading hours.
Major chain stores like Woolworths, Coles, Myer, Big W and Kmart can now open from 8am to 6pm on Saturdays and 9am to 6pm on Sundays.
Whilst this means longer working hours for staff, shoppers are pleased that they can get the weekly grocery shop done and be home again before the previous opening time of 11am.
Stockland Townsville's Centre Manager Malcolm Miller says crowd numbers and increased sales will pick up.
"It might not be immediate in the first couple of weeks, until people get used to it and people's shopping habits change. They won't be under pressure especially on a Sunday where they previously couldn't really shop until 11o'clock in the morning," says Malcolm.
