Troubled Playmaker Pulls The Pin

Carney Call Ends NRL Hopes News Corp Australia

Todd Carney's dream of running out for the Cowboys is over, as the troubled playmaker pulls the pin on his shot of redemption to play in the NRL.

The 31 year old has confirmed he's moving back to Sydney because of a family illness.

He's reportedly quitting his agreements with the Northern Pride and Cowboys, with the Half touching down in Sydney on Sunday.

Carney was close to securing a one year deal with the Cowboys, meeting three times with NRL CEO Todd Greenberg.

However the NRL boss said he was yet to make a decision on whether he'd give Carney another lifeline.

The former Dally M medalist has been sacked by three NRL clubs and deregistered twice since 2004.
