Berejiklian Government could backflip on amalgamations

Ratepayers across the Federation Council area await news of whether the New South Wales government will not only scrap its forced amalgamation policy, but also allow those councils already merged a chance to vote on de-amalgamation.

Nine reports the major backflip plans are set to go before cabinet either today or next week, although they haven't been confirmed by any government sources.

On Tuesday, the new Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton said Premier Berejiklian had indicated she wanted to "look closely" at the issue of councils.
