A man has had his leg crushed by a saw blade while working on the Sydney NorthConnex road project.

The estimated 1.5-tonne saw fell on the 26-year-old's right leg while he was working inside the tunnel at West Pennant Hills on Friday morning, a NSW Ambulance spokesman told AAP.

The man was freed and has been rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital where he is expected to undergo surgery.
