It's feared a man has drowned after being swept into rough seas at Nobbys Beach last night.
The 23 year old and a mate, both Pakistani uni students, were wading in knee-deep water on the rocks just to the south of the surf club at around 7pm when a large wave knocked the pair into the water.
They both then got stuck in a rip.
One managed to make it back to shore with the help of bystanders, however the second man disappeared.
Water Police, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and surf lifesavers searched the area for more than two hours but were called off due to the dangerous conditions.
The search resumed at 7:00am this morning.
The missing man was wearing a navy blue t-shit and black jeans.
