Commuters have been warned that the worst is yet to come with the Sydney trains situation, with rail platform closure warnings in place for this afternoon.
A message from Transport NSW for commuters is to "not all descend in the peak of the peak" and instead either leave earlier or depart from the city a bit later to ease congestion.
"This afternoon, we are worried about what is going to happen at Central, Town Hall and Wynyard," Transport for NSW Transport Co-ordinator Marg Prendergast said.
"What we envisage is that it will be very, very crowded and there will be times when we have to close the station - or the platforms at least.
"We're working with police and Sydney trains will be there to manage those crowds, keeping people moving and keeping people safe is our objective in light of a reduced service.
Warnings have also been issued ahead of Australia Day tomorrow.
While train services are reduced in the morning, from 4pm in the afternoon there are additional bus services operational.
