Thinking outside the box has become very literal inspiration for a new “pop-up” school set to open in inner Sydney.
The NSW Government has created a temporary school next to the Wentworth Park greyhounds track while a brand new Ultimo Public School is constructed between now and 2020, ABC reports.
Education Minister Rob Stokes said the 14 classrooms would be accompanied by a canteen, library and playground area, and would ensure no disruption for the 360 students starting school.
"We can ensure that kids who are at school right at the moment, aren't disrupted by the change," he said.
With another 120 schools across the state flagged for redevelopment or a build from scratch, Mr Stokes said more pop-up schools could be expected.
"We are going to require a few temporary schools in different locations," Mr Stokes said.
Once completed, the Ultimo Public School redevelopment have capacity for some 800 students across 30 classrooms.
