Sydney is bracing for a heatwave next week, with temperatures to crack 40C.
“The current forecast is 32C for the city and 40C for the west on Wednesday, and that will be the first 40C day we’ve had coming into summer,” Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Rob Taggart said.
“The new week will start off fairly warm, 31C in the west on Sunday, and warming up from there.
Penrith reached 34C yesterday, while things heated up in the city at 31C.
Storms are expected to hit over the weekend, however the cool change will be gone by Sunday.
