A man has died after drowning at Avalon beach earlier today.
The man, in his 60s, was discovered by fellow beach-goers and dragged onto some rocks.
They then performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
A witness has said that the man had been seen surfing up the southern end of the beach.
Paramedics from both a helicopter and four road teams were unable to save the man.
“The man is yet to be formally identified,” a police spokesperson said.
“Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command are making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
“A report will be prepared for the Coroner.”
